Abstract
Sergio Leone is one of the greatest, yet most criticized film directors of all time, with an unprecedented contribution to the Italian cinema. During his opulent film career, Leone managed to revitalize the stagnant Western genre and establish a new, modified Spaghetti Western genre. In his outstanding “Dollars” trilogy, including A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), he introduced not only a new type of hero, but also reinvented narrative elements, and presented an innovative way of visual framing, and an unsanitized depiction of violence. Owing to Clint Eastwood's performance as the “Man With No Name,” Ennio Morricone's ethereal soundtrack, along with Leone's directing virtuosity, these films account for some of the best motion picture achievements in the history of Western.

Sergio Leone jedan je od najvećih, ali i najkritiziranijih filmskih redatelja svih vremena, sa svojim, dotad nezabilježenim, doprinosom talijanskoj kinematografiji. Kroz svoju bogatu karijeru, Leone je uspio revitalizirati zastarjeli žanr vesterna i utemeljiti novi, preinačeni žanr špageti-vesterna. U svojoj izvanrednoj trilogiji „Dolari,” koja uključuje filmove Za šaku dolara (1964), Za dolar više (1965), i Dobar, loš, zao (1966), predstavio je ne samo novu vrstu junaka, već i poboljšane narativne elemente, inovativno kadriranje, kao i necenzurirani prikaz nasilja. Zahvaljujući nastupu Clinta Eastwooda u ulozi „Čovjeka bez imena,” nadzemaljskoj filmskoj glazbi Ennija Morriconea, kao i Leoneovoj redateljskoj virtuoznosti, ovi filmovi svrstavaju se u ponajbolja filmska ostvarenja u povijesti vesterna.
