In accordance with the standards of the European union and the world wide community, Croatia needs to keep current in the preservation of the environment together with the European member states. In this regard, long-term and short-term targets have been set. The harmonization of the Croatian regulation in the field of waste management with the legislation of the European Union, along with the creation of national plans, aims to establish a cumulative and effective waste management system. Pesticides are products of chemical or biological origin used for pest control. The use of pesticides in the world is a more common and necessary agricultural operation today. After its use, the pesticide becomes hazardous waste that must be disposed of in a legally prescribed method. The inappropriate disposal of the empty pesticide containers can produce harmful effects on human and animal health, and lead to environmental pollution. Packaging management is currently a relatively dynamic and innovative process whose strategy, at least in Croatia, is transitory and in development. For the safe delivery and the use of pesticides, packaging greatly reduces the risk of leakage and attrition in the supply chain, reducing exposure of the workers as well. The aim of this study is to describe the management of the current pesticide waste packaging system in the Republic of Croatia, to determine the amount of packaging waste, to compare it with the other member states of the European union, and describe the methods of collection, disposal and recovery of this kind of hazardous waste.
