Agricultural policy represents a segment of the policy which is directed towards agriculture and development of rural areas. There are three essential objectives that the Croatian agricultural policy is trying to achieve: enhancing competitiveness of the Croatian agriculture, technologically modernized processed-food industry, ensuring sustainable management of natural resources and achieving a balanced territorial development. Those in charge of the agrarian policy in Croatia are striving to achieve all the listed objectives and tasks; Croatian Parliament, the executive authorities, banks and various other institutions. Croatian accession to the European Union brought many changes, both positive and negative ones, for the domestic agricultural market. Although rich in natural resources, having a favorable climate and a vast arable land, Croatian agriculture is in a dismal state, mostly due to farmland fragmentation, immense outside competition and outdated technology which generates/requires high costs and poor strategy. By analyzing imports and exports of the agricultural products for the period of 2015-2016, it becomes evident that the import of the products is still considerably larger than the export, which ultimately results in Croatia being, despite all its potential, one of the largest importers of agricultural products.
