Women's entrepreneurship is a problem that is receiving more and more attention at the global level, but also in Croatia. The cause of the problem is inequalities between male and female entrepreneurs. The paper presents the basic obstacles to the development of women's entrepreneurship, as well as possible ways to solve these obstacles and the opportunities that women have when starting their own business. The main obstacles to a more significant representation of women in entrepreneurship are reflected in traditional views on the role of women in society, difficult access to finance and the policy and regulatory framework and its implementation in order to strengthen gender equality. In the Republic of Croatia, women's entrepreneurship is still underdeveloped, although the situation has been slowly changing recently. In addition to the ministries and relevant state bodies responsible for the development of women's entrepreneurship, non-governmental organizations, which contribute to the promotion of women's entrepreneurship and the faster flow of information to women entrepreneurs, make it possible to change the situation. Although the number of women entrepreneurs is still lower than the number of men, women entrepreneurs now represent a significant factor in overall entrepreneurial activity and the country’s economy in general. On the other hand, the large increase in women's entrepreneurship in developed countries is considered to be the result of greater democratization of society and increasing equalization of women's and men's rights.
