The pandemic caused by coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been spread throughout the world in a very short period of time and it has affected the lives of a large number of people. No other crisis in erlier history has affected the whole world in such short period of time, and in the same time had such a great impact on all aspects of human existenceas as did the COVID-19 pandemic. Countries around the world took different approaches to protect their residents, which led to a serious economic crisis both globally as well as in the Republic of Croatia, alongside with the immediate impact of the pandemic and decline in economic activity. The impact of the crisis was manifested through reduction of the gross domestic product, increase in the unemployment rate, decline of export activities and deterioration of other macroeconomic indicators. Based on the analysis of tax revenues of the Republic of Croatia, a conclusion was made about the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic based on both its direct effects on tax realization and actions of politics in the form of measures to suppress virus spreading as well as helping the economy. With more detailed tax analysis of regional and local units of the Republic of Croatia over the years, in comparison to the tax realization in the year of pandemic, the negative impact of the pandemic on regional and local budgets has been proved, in form of tax revenues decrease. Furthermore, the significance of tax revenues as the main source of funding has been highlighted, as well as the importance of regional and local authorities in the fight against pandemic.
