At the beginning of 2020, the pandemic of the Covid-19 virus began to spread rapidly around the world, and to date more than 600 million people have become ill from it, of which 1% have died due to complications from the COVID-19 disease. With the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, inevitable changes began to occur in the economies of many countries. In the Republic of Croatia, the gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 8.4% in 2020, which represents a greater decline in economic activity than the decline in 2009, i.e. the year of the great economic crisis. After a strong decline in economic activities, a recovery is already noticeable in 2021 with GDP growth in 2021 of 10.4%, which represents the highest real growth since 1995. Likewise, real growth in 2023 exceeded the real level of GDP from 2019 by 1.5%. In parallel with the drop in GDP due to the pandemic, a significant drop in the number of arrivals and overnight stays of tourists to the Republic of Croatia in 2020 was also recorded. However, the negative trend did not continue in 2021, but tourism results began to improve, although they are still far above the results of the record year 2019. In many countries, tourism plays a very important role in their economies, and Croatia is a member of the European Union that is the most dependent on tourism with as much as 24% of the gross domestic product, so the pandemic itself has a significant impact on the domestic economy. The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy of the Republic of Croatia and the tourism sector using the example of Valamar. In doing so, all relevant and available information and data as well as relevant literature will be used.
