In the conditions of a dynamic corporate environment, strongly marked by a current economic financial crisis, leasing is becoming a more popular instrument in financing the acquisition of property in developed and developing countries. It is about a special method of acquiring an investment benefit in which the leasing party rents out a certain property, and the customer is obligated to pay a certain fee throughout the duration of the leasing contract. In terms of a modern corporate environment, the purpose of leasing is based on the fact that one can use a property with ease, while the ownership of said property is a secondary issue. With leasing one does not need to invest personal wealth, payment is subject to the needs and capabilities of the customer. Corporate subjects are provided with a swift replacement of the leasing object if it becomes technologically out of date which provides invaluable competitiveness and therefore survival in the demanding corporate environment. This paper tries to shed some light on the importance and meaning of leasing companies in the economy, especially in their role of financing the businesses of economical subjects and the overall finance and development of the Republic of Croatia. Importance is placed on the business of leasing companies in the time of an economical crisis and the ways to exit the crisis, with regards to the fact that the demand for leasing is dependent on the market of goods and services. A special importance is placed on the identification of a financial crisis and the first symptoms and causes, which businesses will have to tackle, as well as a detailed business analysis, achieved through the internal and external factors so that we can understand the situation of the observed business and which measures should be taken and are needed to handle the financial crisis.
