The paper analyzes the accounting and tax treatment of capital income. The study included all forms of receipts, which constitute investment income, their basic features and a few examples shown the calculation of taxes on income from capital. In this paper, the emphasis is on the taxation of interest on savings deposits. This tax form, which was introduced 01.01.2015., is analyzed through theoretical part and shows his calculation on a real life example. This work was intended to provide insight into the extent to which the said tax forms has an impact on the savings of citizens, and for this purpose the empirical research conducted in Zagreb, which included 70 respondents. The research was aimed to investigate and determine the level of savings of citizens of Zagreb, in order to been the foundation for the creation and improvement of the existing supply of savings, or to be based on the data collected could reach conclusions about the level of current savings of the citizens of Zagreb. By analyzing the results of the study can be concluded that the citizens of Zagreb which are saving most satisfied with their savings, while introduced tax form is not too adversely affected the level of their savings. Also, there is a space for improvement in the existing offer savings to citizens.
