At the beginning of the 21st century, emphasis was placed on sustainable development and sustainability. Any company that wants to show concern for the future life and people will put sustainable development on a first place. The purpose of this paper is to present how sustainable development and holistic planning are implemented in the operations of the oil industry, as well as its environmental, social and economic components. The primary goal of the oil industry is to meet humanity's energy needs. Global demand for oil is on the rise, but despite this, companies have been selected with a complex problem and major investment challenges due to the exploitation of the environment in the production of oil and its products. Oil companies are at the turning point of their business and and aim to do business within the framework of sustainable development. This paper analyzes the operations of the oil industry through the aspects of sustainable operations and the goals set by the United Nations as the major determinants of sustainable business in the world. The oil industry is slowly but surely moving through sustainable development because the future of the industry itself depends on it.
