Transport has a great impact on the modern lifestyle of every living being, but even more so on the development of the economy as a whole, With the development of traffic, forms of transportation have changed from year to year, from simpler conventional to more modern multimodal modes. Multimodal transport is a transport concept that is faster and safer, with lower costs and less environmental pollution. The key to multimodal transport is to shift traffic from roads to rail, maritime or inland waterways to eliminate bottlenecks. The aim of this master’s thesis is to analyze the existing multimodal transport in the European Union, and to give an insight into the current state of the same in the Republic of Croatia. This masters thesis also analyzes the reasons for the traffic lag in the Republic of Croatia. Research into the role of the Intermodal Promotional Center seeks to emphasize the importance of activities promoting those forms of transport that are in line with sustainable development. It is concluded that developed infrastructure is an important prerequisite for the overall economy of each country, including the Republic of Croatia, which creates the preconditions for promoting multimodality, in order to ensure balanced development and strengthen competitiveness. The favorable position of the Republic of Croatia gets even more value when placed in the context of including traffic routes in the transport system of the European Union. In order for this to be possible, the basic and specific goals of the current transport development strategy in the Republic of Croatia have to be achieved.
