This thesis deals with an empirical analysis of the relationship between marital status and subjective well-being. The paper first defines the theory of second demographic transition, and then describes and graphically presents the demographic changes associated with the second demographic transition. After that, the concept and indicators of subjective well-being are defined, and the theoretical aspects and review of previous research on the relationship between marital status and subjective well-being are described. The last chapter of the paper deals with empirical analysis of the relationship between marital status and subjective well-being, using data from the 9th round of the European Social Survey. A descriptive and regression analysis was performed on a sample of 27 countries and 44,914 respondents. First, a descriptive analysis of the variables used in the regression analysis is presented, and a sample of subjects is described. The dependent variable in regression analysis is subjective well-being, the main independent variable is marital status. Control variables such as countries, gender, education and education are also introduced. Two models were evaluated, one without control variables, the other with control variables, while in both models, differences in subjective well-being were observed among the countries included in the analysis. The results are in line with expectations - there is a link between marital status and subjective well-being. Married people on average record positive subjective well-being from other groups. It can be concluded that despite various current demographic changes, marriage is the most favorable type of marital status in terms of the level of subjective well-being.
