The topic of this paper is "Energy renovation of public buildings in Lika-Senj County." This paper discusses how savings can be made if public buildings are renovated, what are the ecological consequences of energy consumption, and how renovation can contribute to rational management. resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions as one of the strategic goals of the European Union. Almost half of the total energy consumption is made up of residential and non-residential buildings. By carrying out energy renovation, the primary energy delivered for heating, cooling, hot water preparation and lighting on an annual basis can be reduced by 96 kWh in multi-apartment buildings. The biggest saving potential is the replacement of inadequate thermal insulation with a better one. Zero energy buildings require higher investment costs during their construction, however, they offer the possibility of greater savings over a longer period of time. Energy poverty is an increasingly common problem faced by most countries. Due to inadequate carpentry or poor insulation, there is a loss of heat, which ultimately results in higher consumption and therefore higher expenses for space heating. In addition to financial problems, staying in rooms belonging to lower energy classes can also cause health problems. Despite previous efforts to reduce the share of fossil fuels in total consumption, this share is still more than 50%, in order to reduce this share to 22.2% by 2050, it is necessary to encourage changes in climate policies as well as in attitudes and preferences end consumers. One of the ways to reduce fossil fuels in the total share is to encourage production from renewable sources. According to the available data, the production of electricity from renewable sources, especially from hydroelectric power plants, increased in Croatia in the previous year. One of the goals of the European Union is to encourage member states to restore energy-inefficient buildings in public ownership in order to reduce their maintenance costs.
