Transgender is a term that refers to those persons whose gender identity is incongruent with the sex assigned at birth. The feeling of discomfort arising from the mismatch of sexual characteristics with gender identity is called gender dysphoria. A voice that does not correspond to gender identity is one of the factors that can lead to gender dysphoria, and for this reason, some transgender people, especially transgender women, are involved in vocal therapy for feminization of the voice. The aim of this paper was to gain insight into the perspectives of transgender women on voice feminization therapy highlighting their motivation for changing the voice, perceived challenges when participating in speech therapy, and experiences while participating in the therapy. Three transgender women involved in voice feminization therapy took part in the research, and the research was of a qualitative type. A semi-structured interview was chosen as the data collection method, and the data was analysed using the Thematic analysis method. Three thematic areas emerged from the analysis: motivation to change the voice, challenges while involving in voice feminization therapy, experiences in voice feminization therapy. The participants had different experiences with speech therapy, but its positive effect on self-confidence, quality of life and reduction of gender dysphoria was highlighted. Furthermore, this research highlighted the need for greater availability of information on speech therapy services for transgender people and a greater number of speech therapists who will provide them. Considering the perspectives of transgender women on voice feminization therapy, in the conclusion of the paper, specific guidelines for improving the provision of speech therapy support to transgender clients are listed.
