The aim of the paper is to present the possibilities of application of music and music therapy in socio-pedagogical work through a review of the physiological, psychological and social influence of music on people, the theoretical view of music therapy, its definition, goals, purpose, and an overview of different approaches that can be applied in dealing with the population of children and young people with behavioral disorders. Furthermore, the paper presents examples of good practice of using music and music therapy from the world, but also from Croatia. Thus, the paper presents a summary of the programme „Music as a source to your inner self“ aimed to work on a strategy for dealing with different emotions with the use of music. The second example of good practice from Croatia is an example of the programme of music activities in the Children's Home Antun Gustav Matoš where social pedagogue works as an educator of music activities and organizes leisure activities using methods and techniques of music therapy. Also, the author presented her individual work with the user in which she used music as an expressive technique that contributes to socio-pedagogical work and to the given treatment goals. Music as an expressive technique is extremely suitable for use in working with children and young people with behavioural disorders as it can be concluded by literature analysis and examples of good practice. By using music in socio-pedagogical work, a good base for a quality therapeutic relationship is made, a pleasant and positive atmosphere is created at meetings, and also various socio-pedagogical goals are achieved such as the development of socially appropriate behavior and interpersonal skills, elimination of undesirable behavior, development of cognitive skills related to day-to-day functioning, development of constructive use of leisure time, development of communication skills, improvement of moods and emotional states, improvement of the quality of life, development of successful self-expression etc.
