Speech-Language Pathology is an interdisciplinary science at the intersection of pure and applied science. It is distinguished by the number and the variety of areas it touches, and one of the narrower areas is the area of acoustics. In the domain of Speech-Language Pathology, acoustics as a science plays a major role in the field of voice disorders. There are numerous voice and speech analysis programmes available and recognized by the academic community on the market. One of them is the PRAAT programme. It is a free software package designed for scientific analysis of speech. It is used in phonetics, acoustics, forensic acoustics and phonetics and speech-language pathology, as well. It is constantly revised and improved with newer versions, and is available for most operating systems. The programme offers a wide range of functions and analyses, including spectogram analysis, voice parameters analysis, formant analysis etc. One of the features that the programme offers is also the PRAAT Scripts function, which is the programming language that allows generating and automation of sequences that would otherwise have been done step by step. In this paper the AVQI Script is fully depicted and its significance for diagnostic purposes, as well. PRAAT's greatest advantage is that it always provides free access to the latest versions of the software itself. Solid knowledge of this programme provides long-term benefits to clinicians, scientists, and finally to speech-language pathology students who show greater interest in the fields of acoustics and phonetics.
