Objectives: Examine how often the phenomenon of posttraumatic growth occurs in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder and to examine the relationship between social support and posttraumatic growth. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Participants and Methods: The research sample consisted of a total of 165 patients treated at the Department of Psychiatry of the National Memorial Hospital Vukovar. The research instrument used a questionnaire of sociodemographic characteristics, a questionnaire of posttraumatic growth by A. Malad and I. Macuk and a scale of social support by D. Jakovljević. Results: Out of a total of 165 patients, the average score on the post-traumatic growth questionnaire is M = 2.09, SD = 1.14, which indicates that study participants after a traumatic experience generally see slight changes in personal strength, social relationships and life philosophy. The T-test for independent samples determined that there were no differences between male and female patients in perceived social support (t (163) = 1.37, p > 0.05) and posttraumatic growth (t (163) = 0.70, p > 0.05). The analysis of the results showed that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between social support and posttraumatic growth - Pearson's correlation coefficient is r = 0.48, p < 0.05. The results of the regression analysis indicate that social support explains 22.7 % of the variance of posttraumatic growth (R =0 .48, R2 = 0.22, F (1, 16) = 47.75, p < 0.05) and is a significant positive predictor of posttraumatic growth (β = 0. 48, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Most patients with PTSD experience one form of posttraumatic growth. There are no differences between male and female patients in posttraumatic growth experienced, nor between patients of different ages, qualifications, employment status, and marital status. There is a statistically significant correlation between social support and post-traumatic growth, social support is a significant positive predictor of post-traumatic growth. Patients who are married receive a higher level of perceived social support compared to patients who do not have a partner
