The teaching profession has always been appreciated and respected in society, but at the same time as social conditions change throughout history, the position of teachers in society is changing. The social reputation of a profession is a way in which society views a certain profession, but its acquisition also signifies the success of the social definition of a profession. For the progress of the state, it is necessary to work on education, which includes training, but also the satisfaction of the teachers themselves, which is, among other things, conditioned by social reputation. The research was conducted using an online survey questionnaire which in May 2020 collected data on the perceptions of the population of the Croatia on the topic of social reputation of the teaching profession. The analysis of the data shows that when it comes to the social reputation of the teaching profession, a little less than half of Croats opt for a medium, and about ¼ for a very low social reputation reputation, while compared to other proffesions it is characterized as the lowest. The perception of the social reputation of the teaching profession does not depend on gender and place of residence of the participants, but on their age and level of education. It stands out that the social reputation of this profession, compared to the period about 20 years ago, has changed a lot, but not under the influence of new technologies. Only 17% of participants believe that it will be difficult for teachers to regain their former social reputation, largely due to the social climate and value system and the socio-political situation in the country.
