Cognitive styles represent approaches to problem solving and modes of making decisions. The importance of cognitive styles is often highlighted in the academic context, predicting the grades, test results etc. Cognitive styles represent a bridge between cognition and personality, but few studies have examined the relationship between personality and cognitive style. The aim of this research is investigating the relation of cognitive styles knowledge, planning and creation from the CoSI inventory, with personality traits of the Five Factor Model (conscientiousness, openness to experience, neuroticism, extraversion and agreeableness), reasoning ability and students’ grade point average. A sample of 145 students participated in this study; 100 female and 37 male, of which most were in their 3rd (N=56) and second (N=30) BA year. Most students studied social (N=60) or natural (N=30) sciences and almost all of them studied in Zagreb (N=129). Analysis of the connections between variables of personality traits and cognitive styles has shown that cognitive style knowledge has statistically significant positive correlations with conscientiousness, openness to experiences and neuroticism. Planning has significant positive correlations with conscientiousness and agreeableness. Creation has significant positive correlations with all traits except neuroticism. Reasoning had no correlation with any cognitive style. Regarding personality traits, reasoning showed a significant negative correlation only with extraversion. Students’ average grade point had significant positive correlations with conscientiousness and openness to experiences.
