This work deals with barriers towards equal approach to ballet education in Croatian context. The theoretical part of this paper provides an overview of the historical development of ballet education in Croatia together with a presentation of the characteristics of ballet education based on traditional approach. Furthermore, the work argues for an aspect of ballet education open to every child. The second part offers research methodology whose aim is to gain insight into the way ballet pedagogues in Croatia understand the purpose of ballet education and their views on the possibilities and potential barriers to opening ballet education to every child. Nine semi-structured interviews were conducted, transcribed and then analysed using thematic analysis. The results show that interviewed ballet pedagogues show an understanding of the need for equal access to ballet education, considering the fact that children with weaker physical abilities are increasingly enrolled due to today’s low interest of children enrolling in ballet schools in Croatia. At the same time, they believe that the framework of the outdated curriculum for ballet education, which does not take into account developmental specifics as well as the individuality of the individual, is a key barrier due to which ballet schools cannot currently meet needs of every child. In conclusion, the results of the research are summarized, along with limitations and guidelines for future research, and the contribution of this conducted research to the artistic dance education is explained.
