The goal of this theoretical research is the theoretical foundation of the work of pedagogue in family centers in Croatia. Based on the theoretical tradition of continental pedagogy, the possibility of pedagogue working in family centers is constituted and the potential contribution of pedagogue is distinguished from the contributions of other professional associates. Family pedagogy, as a branch that studies the pedagogical relationship between parents and children, enables the pedagogue to carry out programs of parental awareness and education of families and professionals in family centers, evaluation and improvement of them, advocacy activities in the local community with which the pedagogue connects the family and the educational institution, research of family needs and family counseling. Pedagogical counseling as an educational tool, i.e., directive showing, differs from other similar activities and enables the pedagogue to practice counseling for families and other users of the family center. In conclusion, the need for further research into the mentioned domains of work of pedagogue and the need to develop a pedagogical theoretical perspective is recognized, which would preferably lead to a clearer regulation of the profession of pedagogue (legal wider regulation of pedagogic activities, legal listing of pedagogue as a professional associate of the Family center, etc.) and better education of future pedagogues.
