Generation Alpha represents a generation that will grow up in a world of digitalization and media. They will shape the coming years of educational challenges. In addition to enabling communication and socialization, recent research testifies to the growing impact of media on leisure time and other aspects of child and youth development. This study aims to investigate the impact of media on the leisure time of the Generation Alpha. The research problem focuses on the effect of media exposure, media usage in leisure time, as well as the interest in social networks, on spending of leisure time with regard to sociodemographic variables and extracurricular and out-of-school activities, socializing online, satisfaction with spending leisure time, number of used social networks and physical inactivity. The survey was conducted in May 2021 using a survey questionnaire on a sample of 281 primary school students (age 9 – 11). Statistically significant differences in media exposure were found regarding the number of siblings, place of residence, amout of leisure time, mobile phone ownership, extracurricular and out-of-school activities, and online socialization. Correlation analysis determined the relations between physical inactivity and frequency of media usage in leisure time, between the satisfaction of leisure time usage and frequency of media usage in leisure time, as well as the relation between satisfaction and the count of used networks. Media exposure strongly characterizes the design and way of spending leisure time of the Generation Alpha, so it's important to ensure organized and guided leisure activities, while families and institutions direct children to critically evaluate information and use media responsibly.
