Volunteering is an important component of civil society and at the same time one of the indicators of the development of society itself. In order to follow the development, it is necessary to research volunteerism as much as possible. Volunteering as a research topic is an increasingly relevant research area and is mostly studied among students. The reason for this is their presence on social networks. Since the first research on this topic in Croatia, the results have shown that there is an interest in volunteering among the Croatian student population and that they do volunteer. However, in comparison with other countries in the world, Croatia was at the bottom of the ladder. The aim of this paper was to find out through a comparative analysis whether there have been any changes in terms of student volunteer engagement and their attitudes about volunteering, to determine in which activities students volunteer the most and for what reasons they do not volunteer. For the purposes of this paper, the data collected in a scientific research project under the leadership of Associate Professor Ph.D.Sc. Tijane Trako Poljak, in the project entitled: Ecological knowledge, attitudes and behavior of female and male students in Croatia. The online survey was conducted at three Croatian universities: the University of Zagreb, the University of Osijek and the University of Split. The statistical results showed that the number of student volunteers increased, but at the same time the number of students who never volunteered increased. The University of Zagreb continues to have the largest number of non-volunteer students, while the University of Osijek volunteers the most. Furthermore, there are socio-demographic differences in volunteering, and female students volunteer more. The most common activity for volunteering is providing information, visiting and socializing, and performing physical work. The most common reasons for not volunteering were students' lack of time due to school and family obligations.
