The aim of this review was to present research that studied differences in coarticulation processes between men and women. According to the research found, it can be observed that the gender differences are visible at the level of articulation and acoustic realization of vocals in coarticulation processes. Also, according to available research, it can be observed that there are differences in the nasal articulatory subsystem in velopharyngeal and velar coarticulation, which is based on fact that women produce greater anticipatory nasal coarticulation than men. Likewise, according to the literature found, it can be concluded that, when it comes to gender differences, the nasal articulatory subsystem is the most researched so far. Those studies that deal with other articulatory subsystems in general mention potential differences between the sexes, but according to the available literature, it can be concluded that there are currently no specific studies that exclusively study the difference between the sexes on other articulation subsystems. Also, this paper presents several studies on the differences in sonority between men and women with a focus on the duration of VOT, but according to the found and available research, it can be concluded that the laryngeal subsystem should be investigated in more detail.
