The paper aims to provide a description of contemporary Croatian political discourse through the analysis of political speeches delivered during a session of the Croatian Parliament. The study is focused on the stylistic and rhetorical features of speeches made by selected politicians and their methods of persuasion. A sample for qualitative research was drawn from the written record of the "Current Morning" – segment of the 10th session of the 10th convocation of the Croatian Parliament. The selection of political speakers was based on their degree of popularity among voters, as determined from available research. The analysis of the speeches was conducted using seven criteria of textuality proposed by the authors de Beaugrande and Dressler, as well as three regulative principles that govern communication through text. Additionally, Ivas's concept of "mystification" and "the seduction by language" was utilized to describe the ways in which non-communicativeness is concealed in the texts. The analysis revealed that most of the analyzed speeches relied heavily on the use of irony, as well as figures of repetition and conveyed meaning. Figures of repetition were found to create apparent coherence, while figures of conveyed meaning enabled texts to be effective and efficient in a populist sense, by appealing to the pathos of the recipients. However, the analysis also showed that the segment "Current Morning," which provides representatives with the opportunity to question ministers and the Prime Minister, was characterized by speeches built on criticism directed towards oponents' ethos that lacked argumentative support through logos. Not all texts included questions, and the answers were primarily based on the rejection of information, rather than the acceptance of exchange in communication. Overall, the analysis suggests that contemporary Croatian political discourse is characterized by high polysemy, a lack of dialogue, and polarization.
