Sažetak
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It; Making Minds. What's wrong with education – and what should we do about it?; Reclaiming Conversation. The Power of Talk in a Digital Age) and two from Croatian into English (Ekološki otisak: kako je razvoj zgazio održivost; Iran u prezentu). The commentary primarily focused on culture-specific items and on preserving the stylistic and semantic integrity of the source text. In terms of preserving the stylistic and semantic integrity of the text, the special focus was on shedding the light on nuances and signs that indicate why a certain phrasing was used instead of another that is almost identical in meaning and to investigate the ways to translate them while keeping the message intended by the author as intact as possible.
Sažetak (hrvatski)
Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s popratnim komentarima: tri teksta prevedena su s engleskoga na hrvatski (The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It; Making Minds. What's wrong with education – and what should we do about it?; Reclaiming Conversation. The Power of Talk in a Digital Age), a preostala dva s hrvatskoga na engleski (Ekološki otisak: kako je razvoj zgazio održivost; Iran u prezentu). Posebna pažnja posvećena je kulturno- specifičnim elementima te očuvanju stilskog i semantičkog integriteta izvornog teksta. Pod očuvanjem stilskog i semantičkog integriteta izvornog teksta naglasak je bio na znakovima i sitnim detaljima koji upućuju na razloge korištenja određenog načina pisanja te na načine na koji se oni mogu prevesti a da se pritom u potpunosti zadrži originalna misao.
