The aim of the research was to describe Baranya speech of the oldest population, compare it to the speech of pre-school and early school age children who inhabit Baranya region, as well as to explore the representation of dialectisms of Baranya area with pre-school and early school age children. Dialectisms of Baranya area have their own peculiarities that make them more worth studying, not only with older population, but also with the youngest. The assumption is that dialectisms are used only by older population, and by the younger – under the influence of school and media – rarely or not at all. The research was conducted in three kindergartens („Grlica“ in Bilje, satellite kindergarten in Vardarac, satellite kindergarten in Kopačevo) and in two schools (Bilje and Kneževi Vinogradi). The sample were pre-school children and pupils attending the mentioned kindergartens and schools and it encompassed a seventy children. The research studied the frequency of dialectisms in the speech of pre-school and early school age children. By observing the participant's results, nowadays, children use a certain dialectisms in high percentage, while most od dialectisms they never heard. Considering the uniqueness of Baranya speech, which belongs to Slavonian dialect, it is necessary to preserve this part of cultural heritage and carry it to younger generations, because, with the disappearance of the older population, the speech itself will disappear. The contemporary way of life (education, media influence) affects the changes in language, including Baranya speech, therefore this research keeps at least a part of linguistic antiquity from oblivion and witnesses its unquestionable wealth.
