Based on the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, the first, and thus fundamental step towards the euro area was taken. In this way, the Republic of Croatia committed itself to the introduction of the euro as its national currency. The question is what will happen after all the conditions are met and the euro is introduced, ie whether the advantages or disadvantages of introducing the euro as a currency in the Republic of Croatia will prevail. This paper highlights the advantages, ie disadvantages of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia. the benefits that will be manifested are aimed at eliminating currency risk within the economy, reducing the costs associated with borrowing within the domestic sector, reducing the risk of potential currency and banking crisis, low transaction costs, compliance with international trade and investment and the advantage of participation when allocating monetary income within the euro area. On the other hand, there are shortcomings that are reflected in the one-time costs of obtaining, ie making banknotes, distributing and withdrawing kuna banknotes and coins. At the same time, large imbalances in the payment of capital are possible. Due to the increase in prices, there is a negative impact on the population due to the already existing fact of enormous unemployment.
