Enviromental and energy issues have recently become one of the main global concerns and they will be even more important in the future. Water represents a crucial resource necessary for the life of every being and the rate of global population growth is the main factor contributing to increased global pollution and energy consumption. Recognizing the problem, there is a tendency towards more sustainable and efficient management of water supply systems to achieve rational use of resources and equipment. This thesis describes the issues of today's water supply systems and emphasizes the importance of asset management and maintenance, as well as the importance of modernizing such processes. The first part of the work focuses on maintenance as a business activity, and then its application and role in the water supply system are described. Furthermore, the main and common problems faced by this sector are described, as well as potentially applicable advanced technologies to solve these problems. An important concept in water supply systems is real-time monitoring, explained through the Internet of Things technology. The second part of the work is based on a practical example of the digitalization of the Krbavica-Udbina water supply system through the described steps, from the beginning to the end of the implementation of the asset management information system. By digitizing this system, better management of assets and human resources has been achieved, and the application of innovative technologies has contributed to more efficient business operations.
