Rapid prototyping began to develop in early 1980 th and was not focused on mass production, but on demands and needs of customers. According to standard ASTM F42 from 2009., Additive Manufacturing – AM is applied. With AM it is possible to create physical models, prototypes, components, tools and functional parts from 3D data constructed using the computer (CAD), with complicated geometry in relatively short time, which is very difficult or even impossible to do with other manufacturing technologies. At the same time requirement is product of good quality, good mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy and precision. There are also many restrictions, primarily in the number of available materials and their properties which may differ quite considerably from the properties of the end-user products materials. Therefore, for optimal use of prototypes in product development it is necessary to know the material properties, and how the various parameters of the machine influence on them, especially if it is used on carry out functional tests. Within doctoral thesis adequate test specimens will be prepared and it will be tested how the machine parameters (orientation of test specimen, energy density, speed and power of laser, and layer thickness of materials) influence the roughness, mechanical properties of product and resistance to atmospheric conditions (UV radiation and absorption of water). Finally, based on the systematized data obtained by testing of properties of the test specimen, it will be provided a critical commentary regarding the data stipulated by their producers.
