For the purpose of manipulating a large amount of glass in a carpentry plant, a manipulator of this type is required. Glass plates must be cut to correct dimensions for which a CNC machine is used, after which they are polished with a vertical polisher. Due to these requirements, this manipulator has the possibility of vertical and horizontal displacement of the plates as well as their rotation around the horizontal plane. The device is controlled via the remote control panel. At the beginning of this paper an overview of the working principle is given as well as suggestions of different solutions for each function. This is followed by an overview of various manipulators for similar purposes that can be found on the market along with their comparison. After that, four concepts were designed and compared, and based on the requirements, one concept was selected for further development. The calculation of load-bearing structures (beams, column), critical joints (shafts, pins), guide elements (bearings, wheels) and drive members (electric motors, threaded spindles) are calculated and checked if they conform to the exploitation requirements. The solution is designed in Solidworks where the main assembly drawing was made, followed by additional sub-assemblies.
