Childbirth is known as one of a woman’s most painful natural experiences, and labor pain consists of multiple physiological and psychological dimensions that need to be managed during childbirth so that they do not result in adverse outcomes for both mother and child. For this purpose, many pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief have been developed, but the most well-known and most frequently used is the pharmacological -epidural labor analgesia. It is applied on request and with the consent of the mother and it is has been proven to be very effective and safe technique for managing labor pain, but there is a risk of certain side effects and complications that it presents. Their severity varies from common side effects such as nausea and vomiting to severe neurological permanent damage and even fetal death. For this reason, it is crucial that epidural analgesia is performed in an adequate space, performed by experienced medical staff and an anesthesiologist following the guidelines of standardized techniques of proper performance. Childbirth and labor pain are very individual experiences and therefore it is necessary to approach epidural analgesia in this way, given that the patient himself can be a factor that contributes to the occurrence of complications when performing analgesia. Also, the factor of faulty equipment that can lead to serious complications needs to be considered.
