When talking about pancreatic cancer, we mean cancer of the glandular tissue, adenocarcinoma, which accounts for 85-90% of all pancreatic tumors. Pancreatic cancer belongs to the rare forms of digestive system cancer. It causes health disturbances, and when discovered, it's mostly in an advanced stage. More than 95% of patients die within two years of diagnosis. The most common risk factors are older age, smoking, a diet rich in fats and poor in fruits and vegetables, thickness reduced physical activity, and already present diseases such as pancreatitis, diabetes, and liver cirrhosis. Longer life expectancy is more frequent in patients on whom is performed operation and then treated with systemic antitumor therapy. The disease can be cured only by a surgical procedure, in diagnostics, the most commonly used imaging methods are ultrasound, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance and endoscopic methods. For the diagnosis, confirmation of the state is done by biopsy. A major contribution to the diagnosis is an endoscopic ultrasound (hereinafter referred to as EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (hereinafter ERCP) and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (hereinafter EGD). While the EUS diagnostic method (image display plus the possibility of performing a biopsy), ERCP can also be a therapeutic method, because apart from displaying lines and taking cytological material, a stent can be placed in narrow lines during ERCP). The most difficult distinction is between the cystic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas and the common pancreas, as well as pancreatic cancer from chronic inflammation of the pancreas. Totally removing the tumor is rarely feasible, therefore chemotherapy is being used in the treatment of this type of cancer, and in recent times biological drugs.
