Accelerated bridge construction is a term used to describe combinations of different methods that allow the bridge to be completed in as little time as possible. The use of different accelerated construction methods on bridge replacement or rehabilitation projects, as well as the construction of new bridges, brings the benefits of reducing traffic congestion and improved site safety. Most bridges undergo several minor and one or two major repairs during their service life. Reducing construction time on existing traffic routes has a major social benefit. The purpose of this paper is to explain the possible methods of erecting bridges by accelerated (prefabricated) construction, to describe parts of the bridge that can be constructed by accelerated erection procedures, show equipment used, view the risks, and to identify the differences between accelerated bridge construction and conventional bridge construction. The results conclude that when a project is in a critical area and time is a crucial factor, accelerated bridge construction is a much more acceptable method of construction. However, these methods can only be applied if there is a Client that has an adequate financial capacity, the Contractor that is qualified and competent, and specialized work equipment is available.
