This paper describes concrete safety barriers through valid regulations and norms. Introduction provides general data for safety barriers, as well as efficiency data of safety barriers according to main criteria: vehicle retention criterion, criterion of severity of impact on vehicle users and criterion of deformation of safety barrier. Furthermore, various types of concrete barriers are described through their dimensions, advantages and defects, mode of performance and their behaviour during collision and different places of installation of concrete safety barriers, in accordance with the existing norms. Also, materials that concrete barriers are made of, from most frequently used reinforced concrete to currently used recycled materials, have been described. Various quality tests of concrete safety barriers on scaled and natural models, the use of modern programs and softwares, as well as methods of production of concrete barriers are explained: „in situ“ procedure at the construction site and industrial procedure. The same chapter describes the proper installation and anchoring of concrete safety barriers. At the end of the paper, the use of concrete barriers in Croatia on important highways and state roads was analysed.
