The aim of this finale work is a more detailed introduction with the building envelope. We will go through a historical overview of the envelope, external and internal influences on the envelope, the properties and functions of the envelope, envelope systems and get acquainted with modern forms of envelopes. The basic task of the envelope is that separation the internal from the external space i.e. environment and protection from external influences, but also the prevention of unwanted energy losses. Usual envelope system are ground floor systems, exterior underground wall system, exterior overground wall systems, including windows, doors and other types of holes and roof systems. Each of the basic systems can be made of different materials and layers. The interaction and joint functioning of all components of system as whole is very important. Envelope design is very complex task because many factors need to be taken into consideration to get optimal ratio of the level of desired properties and financial costs. The envelope must be pleasing the eye and in harmony with surrounding buildings and the environment.
