Trough this work it was investigated the loess characteristics of the Republic of Croatia, as well as the spatial distribution of loess and loess-like deposits found on the state territory. In this paper, on the basis of the Basic geological maps of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which were made on a scale of 1:100,000, and which are still valid today and on the basis of which all geological research is carried out, including this one. The spatial distribution of loess is shown in such a way that the loess of the Republic of Croatia is divided into continental and coastal Croatia. Continental Croatia is shown through 5 sheets of the Basic Geological Map and based on their interpretation, the characteristics and lithological features of the loess for the selected areas are shown in detail. Coastal Croatia is shown with one sheet of OGK because loess is a characteristic soil of continental Croatia, but considering that it is also found on the coast, it was necessary to show and research it in an area where we do not expect this type of soil. In addition to the spatial distribution and lithological characteristics, the work deals with the behavior of loess soil and soils that belong to the group of loess-like deposits, geomorphological processes and engineering problems that occur in loess soil and loess-like soil, such as erosion, occurrence of landslides, but also one of the characteristic geomorphological processes for loess soils, which is dredging.
