In this thesis, a review of relevant global literature on the design of equestrian bridges and equestrian access trails is provided. Although such bridges are rare in Croatia, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the recommendations for designing and constructing equestrian bridges as well as equestrian trails. Equestrian bridges are often constructed in countries where equestrian traffic is prevalent, such as the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Australia. The guidelines of the mentioned countries for the construction of equestrian bridges and trails are summarized in this paper, likewise important parameters for the construction of bridges and trails are described, such as bridge width, fence height, bridge slope, horizontal and vertical clearance, and others. Also, the described guidelines were compared with each other. The paper includes the valorization of equestrian bridges in the Istria region. Evaluated bridges are not designed according to guidelines for equestrian traffic, but they are also used by riders. On the selected bridges, key parameters of each bridge were determined through measurements and compared with the recommendations from the guidelines to identify deviations of the measured parameters from the recommendations.
