Goli Otok is known as a place of suffering of political prisoners in the period following the World War 2. The torture to which prisoners were subjected to and a unique system in which the camp operated, broke the human spirit and took away all dignity. Before 1949, the island was not inhabited and as such had no infrastructure, and therefore it had no living conditions. All the existing buildings on the island were built by prisoners with rocks painstakingly carried from quarries. Today, almost 70 years later, the infrastructure is collapsing while the competent dispute over the ownership of the island. In the dispute between the three interested parties (Republic of Croatia, Rab and Lopar) the public loses the most, deprived of a small part of its history. Despite the fact that 100,000 visitors a year visit the island, Goli Otok does not fully exploit its potential. In roughly 20 years since the prison closed, not one meaningful decision has been made that would improve the cultural or tourism development of the island. Although 3 spatial plans has been published and the 4th is under construction, there is no adequate base for planning and designing. The reasons are many. Despite all of the above, this work is about the renewal and conversion of the administrative building of Goli otok for tourism purposes, based on the available documentation. The result is a conceptual design of hotel that meets high standards, but at the same time does not destroy the current prospect of the object.
