Nowadays, the main principle of every modern printing company is competitiveness. It is well-known that today’s market laws are very harsh and competitiveness is the only way to survive in such an environment. In order to be competitive, it is necessary to constantly reorganize, follow trends, and adjust manufacturing processes, to always act according to certain standards. The amount of standardizations implemented in a printing company not only raises its reputation, but also makes it easier to work, saves time and fnance. Standardization works on a global level and enables the company to guarantee high quality printing and maintaining an enviable level of service. Standards in graphic arts are issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or by institutes in graphic arts industry such as FOGRA, UGRA, ECI and BVDM. Institutes in graphic arts industry are involved in the development and research of the graphic profession in general and regularly update and publish revisions of existing standards for each printing technique separately. They act as non-proft organizations with the aim of developing graphic technology. By standardizing workflows in a printing company, we do not specify which machines or tools we need to use, but that, during production, we use certain measurable specifcations, to ensure that our product is in compliance with the client’s vision. Particularly, in offset printing there are many parameters that affect the quality of fnal products. Illumination conditions, measuring devices, dot gain and CIE L*a*b* color coordinates are main factors that must be met by the standard for offset printing ISO 12647-2.
