Nonverbal communication is an integral part of everyday communication process. With its help we can communicate intimacy, status and power, our personal identity or use it for deception. It is intertwined with verbal communication in ways of conflict, repetition purposes, complementing, substitution, highlighting/reduction or regulation of spoken words. For politicians, nonverbal communication is especially important since they can use it as another tool for stronger convincing the electorate. Yet sometimes, opposite of the original intent and despite of the efforts of their professional teams, their nonverbal behavior can be counter effective. Excessive repetition of gestures may seem as a caricature, and a smile in a political debate can, instead of achieving the impression of accessibility, be interpreted as a sign of submission. Everything depends on the context, which is crucial for every study of nonverbal communication, as it was in this thesis. In it the nonverbal communication of two exposed politicians of today is analyzed, of Barack Obama and Donald Trump. They are contrary in their political beliefs, and the result of the analysis shows if this is the case with their gestures and facial expressions as well, and if so, of what quantity and what extent are they taught behaviors. With a research method combination it is confirmed that the most frequent gestures of Barack Obama are affirmative, and of Donald Trump threatening; smile and other facial expressions do not have a significant role in the nonverbal communication of Barack Obama, while it is the opposite case with Donald Trump; the synchronization of verbal and nonverbal communication is present in the communication of Barack Obama, and not present with communication of Donald Trump; it is confirmed that the nonverbal communication of both politicians is largely taught behavior.
