Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the profile of sensitization in relation to the allergic disease and the age of the child, and to determine which allergens are most often noticed as the cause of allergic symptoms by children or their parents. Patients and methods: The study included 1,102 children aged from 0 to 17 years who were in the period from 2011 to 2014 received to the Allergy Clinic in Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka and undergone skin prick testing. Results: The most common causes of atopic dermatitis are food allergens, especially egg. Urticaria has more frequent nutritional allergens, although the leading is D. pteronyssinus. In asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma with the allergic rhinitis/rhinoconjunctivitis dominate inhaled allergens. The most common inhaled allergens are dust mites, especially D. pteronyssinus. Only in the allergic rhinoconjunctivitis are more common pollen allergens, of which the most common is grass. Before the third year allergic diseases are usually caused by food allergens, and after the third year by inhalation allergens. Children and parents mostly notice that symptoms of allergic disease are associated with the season of pollination and in contact with pets. Conclusion: The skin changes in atopic dermatitis are associated with food allergens, while allergic diseases of respiratory tract are associated with inhaled allergens. Since the highest prevalence of atopic dermatitis is before the third year, in this period, the most common are food allergens, and after the third year is growing prevalence of allergic diseases of respiratory system and the frequency of inhaled allergens.
