Congenital heart diseases form a group of diseases that is defined as a disorder of the position, structure and / or function of the heart or large blood vessels present from birth. They are among the most common congenital disorders, and due to remarkable medical advances over the past few decades, over 90% of affected children reach adulthood, and these diseases are becoming a growing public health problem with an approximate prevalence of 2.8 per 1,000 population worldwide. In this study, the prevalence of hospitalized patients at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases of the University Hospital Center Rijeka was observed, as well as their clinical characteristics, performed therapeutic procedures and their outcomes. A high prevalence of hospitalizations at the said Clinic of 29.2 per 1,000 hospitalized was determined. Women predominated among the patients. The reasons for the arrivals were heterogeneous, but planned closure of the atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale was in the leading position. The most common congenital heart disease was atrial septal defect. The most common of the examined conditions and diseases were stroke and heart failure, however, most patients did not have any of the examined conditions and diseases. In most patients, percutaneous corrective procedures were performed during hospitalization, and except in the case of contraindications, antiplatelet or anticoagulant therapy was introduced.
