The growing spread of COVID-19 has turned into one of the most compelling global public health challenge in recent years. Among society’s most vulnerable groups are pregnant women. While most health services are concerned with the impact of COVID-19 infection on direct pregnancy outcomes, a few have consider the long term consequence of overwhelming stress and anxiety and their impact on fetal neurobehavioral development. The aim of this letter is to stimulate novel investigations and theoretical perspectives on how pregnant women are psychologically affected by COVID-19 critical situation. Specific aims include putting an effort in pregnancy counselling and reducing the risk of developing distress, as well as promoting preventive behaviors. Finally, future research is needed to estimate the burden of COVID-19 infection in the formation of personality and neurobehavioral development of the children conceived in the era of the COVID-19 crisis.
