Dermatomycoses are infections of the skin, hair and nails caused by fungi. The most common fungi in Europe and North America are dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epi-dermophyton), yeasts (Candida spp.) and saprophytes (Malassezia). Clinical presentation of different infections can be remarkably similar, but dermatomycoses can be mistaken with other skin conditions. Existing diagnostic measures are microscopic analysis and their cultivation in special medium. Prevalence of dermatomycosis is increasing in the last few years, and the pos-sible reasons for it would be recent migrations of the populace, low socioeconomic status, in-ternational travel, and close contact with the animals. Also, the incidence of skin mycosis is increasing with the number of people on the immunosuppressive therapy and those with heavy chronic disease. In the process of caring of dermatomycosis it is important to follow the gen-eral measures of care together with usage of antifungal chemotherapy administrated topically and systematically (oral and parenteral). Threatening issue would be the emergence of resistant strains of the fungi that do not react to the existing therapy.
