Wind farms are power plants in which the kinetic energy of the wind is converted into mechanical energy, and further the mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. The choice of wind turbines for an individual wind farm is usually set to the same height and power. According to the position of the axis of rotation, wind turbines are divided into those with horizontal and vertical axes of rotation. Depending on the place of installation, wind farms are divided into land, coastal, floating and air (altitude). The parts of the wind turbine are the tower, rotor, blades, generator, power transmission, brake and others. It can be controlled by power, voltage and frequency. The wind farm management system has its subsystems. Wind farm maintenance is divided into corrective, preventive and predictive. Replacing old generators with new ones (repowering) increases the performance and production of electricity from wind farms. When connecting a wind turbine to the grid, certain criteria must be adhered to. The impact of wind farms on the environment is manifested by the creation of noise, and the flight of birds and bats into the blades. The use of wind farms for electricity production in Croatia and the world is expected to increase.
