Contemporary tourism trends are primarily determined by global developments such as the ever-present threat of terrorist attacks in certain countries but also ubiquitous travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, trends in tourism are also influenced by social trends and technology development. The rise of web 2.0 technologies has significantly influenced the development of a new generation of intermediaries based on reviews from other guests rather than strong promotions done by corporations. Furthermore, social phenomena such as greater environmental awareness and concern for social responsibility are leading to the growing popularity of travel based on sustainable tourism. Despite all this, it is difficult to plan future trends because the tourism market is changing at a very high rate and too many factors influence the development of factors determining trends.
