Ancillary services are becoming increasingly important in the power system. Any entity connected to the network is considered a customer of ancillary services. Planning in the electric power system consists of two special activities: development planning and usage planning, and their goal is minimum costs and safe and high-quality delivery of electricity.The whole process is framed by legislation and awareness that the distribution system for ancillary services is actively changing. The distribution network had the task of transforming and transferring electricity from a higher to a lower level, and this was a one-way flow, that is, the network was passive. A new understanding and active management of the distribution network is increasingly being developed, which sees in its network an increasing application of ancillary services such as frequency maintenance, voltage and reactive power regulation, black start, island drive and others. There is an increasing possibility of providing ancillary services in the distribution system that are based on the solar system, which is given increasing attention for the sake of environmental protection. The final paper presents an example of the work of TenneT, the Netherlands.It is concluded that it is necessary to do more simulations and a greater number of technical and economic studies in order to further encourage the use of ancillary services in the distribution power system.
