The subject of this paper is LoRaWAN, a point-to-multipoint network protocol that uses Semtech’s LoRa modulation scheme. The terms LPWA (Low-Power Wide-Area Network) and LoRa are explained and their application in practice is presented. LoRa is a method of transmitting radio signals that uses a chirped, multi-symbol format to encrypt information. LoRa technology and LoRaWAN protocol enable the application of smart IoT applications for energy management, natural resource control, pollution control, infrastructure efficiency and disaster prevention. The expansion of LoRaWAN networks and the rapid increase in the number of end devices requires a better understanding of the limits of LoRaWAN scalability, which has been attempted with the help of the LoRaWAN network simulation tool. The aim of the simulation was to determine the value of using this tool in everyday practice and the possibility of application to check the improvement of technology and discover possible solutions for optimizing the performance of the LoRaWAN network.
