Dysfunctional bleeding is the most common cause of bleeding from the uterus. It has a great influence on the quality of life of women and their families. Classification of such bleedings, along with their many types and subtypes, is facilitated by the FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) classification. Given the various causes of bleeding, it is extremely important to set a timely diagnosis. This implies an individual approach to each woman in form of an exhaustive anamnesis. Further diagnosis is based on the results of appropriate examinations. Treatment of dysfunctional bleeding depends on accurate diagnosis, women's age and hemodynamic stability. The first choice of treatment are medications while surgical treatment is performed in women with an inadequate response to medication. In dysfunctional bleeding, it is very important for the patient to react in time and to provide the help she needs as soon as possible. Nowadays, midwives have an important role in education, counseling and care of women with dysfunctional bleeding.
