Thesis of this specialist work is actual, important and useful because it deals with issues regarding melanoma therapy, disease that is gaining in prevalence worldwide and in Republic of Croatia. The aim of this work is to describe characteristics of innovative therapies already adopted in melanoma treatment protocols and to give the insight into main melanoma development protocols with the emphasis on immunotherapies and targeted therapies. Additional goal is to define key factors that will help contribute to making positive decisions about introducing innovative melanoma treatments in regular use in Republic of Croatia. This work hypothesize that innovative melanoma treatments show increased efficiency of compared with classical approach and that described effectiveness factors provide objective proof for improvement of final treatment outcomes. Relevant scientific literature of novel date and broad overview of melanoma pathology and epidemiology, overview of melanoma innovative drugs and therapies in use or in research was used in the preparation of this specialist thesis. This specialist thesis is described and discussed by taking an insight into newest scientific knowledge of subject area. Results of this specialist work are showing that introduction of innovative drugs and therapies in melanoma therapy results in great advance-ments and promotes patients' life expectancy. However, high price of these drugs and therapies presents a great obstacle for a broader usage. Statistically achieved values such as therapeutic response, progression-free survival and overall survival are providing relevant proof of benefit of use of innovative drugs and therapies in melanoma treatments. These values therefore represent valuable arguments in debates about introduction of advanced therapies in regular use in Republic of Croatia´s health system. In conclusion, innovative melanoma therapies include the use of monoclonal antibodies in mono- and combined therapies, drugs that specifically target certain points in melanoma cells and/or in immune system cells in mono-and combined therapies and oncolytic virus therapies. With numerous innovative drugs and therapies already in use, there are many others in research phase or approval phase. Among these, most significant are tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and gene therapies. The use of innovative melanoma therapies has shown significant advancement in terms of efficiency compared to established melanoma treatments. As a consequence, standards of melanoma medications are set on a higher scale. Therapeutic response, progression-free survival and overall survival are providing objective proof of melanoma treatments improvements by use of innovative drugs and therapies.
